How does narrative theory apply to the trailer analysed?

The trailer I will be analysing  is BEDEVILED by Terror House. The theme for this Trailer I believe is possession because of the way in which the girl is acting in the trailer.

Todorov's theory was the idea of Equilibrium, Disequilibrium and resolution. In terror house's trailer they use disequilibrium for the montage scenes which a typical for horror trailers to include this allows the audience to get the action part of the film which will interest them. The trailer was set in a non linear way which is shown in the montage of the film.  Comparing terror house's trailer to my summer one I believe I didn't used Todorov's theory correctly, our montage where scenes which were not filled with action they didn't intrigue the target audience.

In Terror house they used Levi-Strauss theory in a different way; there isn't a defiant villain/hero or good and bad but in fact the protagonist herself is the antagonist. there is no sign of a demonic power possessing her so this is what we assume. In Terror houses trailer you don't see many stock characters which is what our trailer did offer but not in the clearest way possible, we had a final girl, antagonist and  dumb blonde( stereotype). our trailer didn't elaborate on these stock characters and was hard to identify something which is an area of improvement.

One of Barthes' theories is the Enigma code which is what Terror house shows because we don't know who is the antagonist, we assume the girl herself and she herself is the evil the villain, in addition to this the end of the trailer which includes a jump scare leaves the audience wandering what happens and what is about to occur, why is she possessed why does she look like that is she in a mental asylum all are question which can be answered when watching the film so then the trailer fulfills its purpose to get the target audience interest to watching the film.

To conclude I believe when using these narrative theories it creates a good trailer.
the trailer  so while analysing i have noticed that my trailer was lacking the ideas of these narratie theorist which would have improved my trailer.

  1. THE ESSAY SHOULD STICK TO 1 EXAMPLE - EITHER YOURS (OR LAST YEARS UNTIL YOURS IS MADE)

DO NOT COMPARE 2 EXAMPLES - IT WILL REDUCE YOUR MARKS
